What is the ConnectOne Web Accelerator?
What gets accelerated?
The ConnectOne Web Accelerator compresses the following elements of web pages and email in order to send the information to your computer faster:

• Web pages - HTML markup and JavaScript
• Graphics including JPEG and GIF images and Flash content
• Passive FTP
• E-mail - SMTP, POP, IMAP (including file attachments!)

What will not be accelerated?
Although the ConnectOne Web Accelerator is able to compress many different types of online data, there are a few which cannot be accelerated:

• Streaming media, audio and video files
• File downloads (except over FTP)
• Secure pages, such as those used for online banking and credit card forms

How does it work?

With traditional dial-up methods, the text and graphics that make up web pages get sent from the server to you over your phone line. Because of the large amount of data required to be sent, this process can be painfully slow. The ConnectOne Web Accelerator compresses this data using a proprietary technology, and sends it over your existing dialup phone line. This compression process allows a smaller amount data to be sent - up to seven times less - making the download time of your web pages and your online experience that much faster. As an added download time reducer, The ConnectOne Web Accelerator stores elements of the web sites you visit frequently eliminating the need to re-download them every time you visit these sites.

How fast is it?

The exact amount of acceleration can vary, but with the ConnectOne Web Accelerator you will notice a significantly faster experience when you visit Web sites, send and receive email, and perform many other Web-based activities.

Frequently-asked questions

Does the ConnectOne Web Accelerator speed up my secure (https) transactions, such as my web banking?

The ConnectOne Web Accelerator does not accelerate secure transactions. Secure web sites will continue to work by bypassing the acceleration component.

Does the ConnectOne Web Accelerator speed up e-mail?

Yes. The ConnectOne Web Accelerator can reduce the amount of time it takes to send and receive e-mail. The product accelerates e-mail automatically without any user intervention, so you can use your mail program exactly as you normally would. It is compatible with any POP3/IMAP/SMTP client, including Outlook Express, Eudora, Pegasus, Opera Mail, Mozilla Mail, and Netscape Mail. E-mail acceleration is disabled by default.

How do I use the ConnectOne Web Accelerator with my web browser?

Start your browser and browse as you normally would. The ConnectOne Web Accelerator is launched automatically every time your computer starts. It operates in the background to accelerate your web connection. No user intervention is required.
